On this International Women’s Day I would like to share this interview with my dissertation advisor Yoshio Hitomi, Associate Professor of the JCulP Program at Waseda University. In it, she reassesses the category of the «woman writer» (joryū sakka) and discusses the importance of all-woman literary magazine Seito, the works of feminist novelist Tamura Toshiko, Virginia Woolf’s reactions to The Tale of Genji, and her own translations of contemporary writer Kawakami Mieko. #IWD2021
